Austrian: New Self-Service Baggage Drop-off in Vienna
At Vienna Airport, passengers can now drop off their baggage independently (at one of the 16 new self-service baggage drop-off counters in Terminal 3) or print out baggage labels before even leaving home. Passengers can choose whether they want to bring their baggage to the counter as usual or check it in themselves. The check-in machines at the airport allow passengers to print their boarding pass (if they haven’t already) and baggage stickers. The number of items of baggage must be stated in advance. The stickers need to be applied to each item of baggage in a visible location. Passengers then put their item of baggage onto the baggage drop-off belt and scan the barcode on the baggage sticker using a handheld reader.
In addition to the increased check-in options at Vienna Airport, passengers can also print out their own baggage labels at home. This will initially only apply for flights from Vienna to Amsterdam, Zürich and Miami. Here’s how it works: You state the number of items of baggage at online check-in, and then the baggage label for your case will be sent with your boarding pass. Just attach it to your case and drop off your bag at the baggage machines.
