Emirates will restrict the use of power banks onboard for all flights

The changes will be affective starting 1st of October 2025. Passengers will still be allowed to carry one power bank under 100Wh, but it cannot be used to charge devices or be recharged during the flight.

Key rules:

  • Only one power bank under 100Wh allowed per passenger.
  • Not allowed to be used or charged onboard.
  • Must have visible capacity ratings.
  • Need be stored in the seat pocket or under-seat bag (not overhead compartments).
  • Not allowed in checked baggage (existing rule).

Due to rising incidents involving lithium batteries, Emirates is implementing these stricter rules to reduce fire risks. Power banks may lack overcharge protection and pose thermal runaway risks, leading to fires or explosions. By restricting their use and requiring accessible storage, Emirates enhances in-flight safety.
