EU relaxing rules for using electronic devices on board

Already now, passengers on US flights are again allowed to make more extensive use of their electronic devices. Now, also the EU has relaxed its rules, allowing for smartphones, tablets and similar devices to remain switched on in airplane mode during take-off and landing. Making telephone calls during flights is still a no-go. The new rules only apply for European airlines. Yet at the end of the day it is up to the respective airline whether or not it will relax its rules.
